Cool Beans - October 7, 2024
Here are the latest exciting bars we’ve tracked down. Let us know if there are cool new bars we should know about, especially if you made them!
Beato Chocolates Childless Cat Ladies—The ladies behind Beato summarize this collection to raise funds for the Harris campaign perfectly:
“We sell chocolate. Our product is not inherently political.
We are a women-owned and run company. Our identity is inherently political.”
The package includes two bars: The Pussy Between Us (38% milk chocolate) and Dance of the Eunuchs (84% dark chocolate).
Dar Chocolate Pumpkin Spice 72%—Dar is getting us ready for the season with their new Pumpkin Spice bar, with lovely artwork by Gila Kaplan.
Harvest Apple Cider—Harvest’s autumn offering combines cinnamon, tart Granny Smith apple, an apple cider blend, and their base almond white chocolate into a perfect accompaniment for an outing to the orchard.
J Street Chocolate Beer Snacks—J. Street’s Beer Snacks bar uses spent grain from Laughing Monk Brewing (no details on which beer, or what the malt grist was), along with corn nuts and flaky sea salt for a fun gameday treat.
Sirene Nootka Rose—Sirene utilizes fragrant Vancouver Island native Nootka Rose petals in this dark milk bar made with cacao from Semuliki Forest, Uganda. Unfortunately (for us), this bar has already sold out.
Ritual Kablon Farms Philippines—Ritual Chocolate has a new single origin bar using cacao from Kablon Farms in the Philippines. Owned by the Pantua family in Tupi, South Cotabato, the farm is now in its third generation of family management. Ritual’s lead product researcher has family roots in the Philippines, so this 75% dark chocolate bar has special meaning to her and the team.
Madhu Mango Lassi White—Madhu uses Indian Alphonso mangoes, cardamom, saffron, Madagascar vanilla, and tangy yogurt in this white chocolate bar celebrating India’s popular mango beverage. This is the first ever white chocolate bar from the creative and innovative folks at Madhu.
Dick Taylor Microbatch Barrel-Aged Apple Brandy—This month’s Microbatch release from Dick Taylor comes to us through a collaboration with Sonoma Brothers Distillery in Sonoma, California. Belize cacao nibs are aged in the distillery’s apple brandy barrels to pick up notes of apple and white wine, leading to a bar the maker describes as “surprisingly fruity and earthy…with undertones of vanilla and cinnamon.”
Crow & Moss Pumpkin Cheesecake—Crow & Moss gets in the seasonal spirit with this oat mylk 42% white chocolate made with pumpkin and spices. Perhaps the most fun part of the bar? Crunchy pie crust is affixed to the back to sell the dessert impression.
