PREORDER Final Gravity, A Beer Zine Issue 08
Issue 08 of Final Gravity, a print beer magazine that shares immersive and personal stories from the world of beer, is now available for preorder with free shipping. More photos of the issue will be added soon.
Rather than a typical glossy beer mag, Final Gravity is an old school stapled zine, but with paid writing and art. It tells the stories that don’t often make it into the pages of beer magazines, the stories that together weave the fabric of the collective beer experience.
In this issue, Matthew Curtis writes about the challenges of dealing with hearing loss, how beer spaces often exacerbate these challenges, and what bars and taprooms can do to accommodate the deaf and hard of hearing.
Jorge Torres takes us behind he scenes of the San Diego Brewchive and its indefatigable librarian, Judith Downie.
Cierra White, drummer for bands like Emasculator and Oak, Ash & Thorn, talks about brewing a collab beer for Decibel Magazine’s Metal & Beer Fest in Denver, and the commonalities between heavy metal and beer.
Here’s the complete list of stories in this issue:
On Deaf Ears—Beer Spaces and The Hard of Hearing by Matthew Curtis
Auras: Heavy Metal & Beer by Cierra White and David Nilsen
In Argentina’s Beer Scene, Creativity Is a Necessity by Danilo Legisa
Judith Downie and the San Diego Brewchive by Jorge Torres
Bad Pints and Enlightenment as a French Beer Lover by Anaïs Lecoq
What To Do If ICE Shows Up at Your Brewpub by Melinda Guerra
24 Hours in Lima, Peru by Ale Sharpton
What Changed When I Met a Bunny With a Chainsaw by Deborah Sale-Butler
Meta[re]verse: Beer Companies Leaving Facebook & Instagram by Cat Wiest
Tornadoes, Cold Cuts, and Beer by Brett Cortelletti
Artist Showcase: Victoria Warde
For each issue of Final Gravity, we select a non-profit working in or around the beer and hospitality industries to support financially. This issue’s beneficiary is the National Black Brewers Association. The National Black Brewers Association (NB2A) fosters career advancement and economic equity for African American brewing professionals and business owners, and encourages the full engagement of Black Americans with the American brewing community.
We believe passionately in the Final Gravity project, in the importance of independent print media, and in the DIY tradition of zine publishing. We hope you’ll enjoy this issue of Final Gravity.
This zine is 8.5” x 5.5”, 56 full-color pages, and staple-bound. Despite being a grassroots, DIY zine, it features paid writing and artwork.
